In the past few years, the number of national hydrogen policies that have been announced or are in the works has significantly increased. This is simply because there are many countries nowadays that are focusing and aiming for net zero emission. As a proof, both public and private organisations worldwide are implementing an increasing number of national hydrogen initiatives.

  1. China

China is one of the countries that is steadily accepting the hydrogen industry as they have made initiatives for its country. As stated by Statista (2022), China is the country with the highest number of hydrogen fueling stations for road vehicles worldwide. By the highest, there were 250 operational hydrogen refuelling stations in the country. This clearly shows that their residents are also actively using the hydrogen vehicles and that makes the country to have a higher number of hydrogen refuelling stations.

China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) hydrogen production facility has the benefits of covering a small area, having been built quickly, and using an eco-friendly manufacturing technique. Sinopec has made every effort to create an industrial structure that doesn’t rely on oil and to completely encourage the development of the entire hydrogen energy industrial chain in order to realise its vision and aim to become a leading clean energy company.

2. Australia

Australia is one of other countries that has a wealth of natural resources that can be used to produce clean hydrogen for both domestic usage and global supply. According to the Australian government, their goal is to create a competitive, safe, clean, and innovative hydrogen sector that benefits all Australians. The clear vision had been stated in their national hydrogen strategy (2019).

They already made initiatives through competitive hydrogen production contracts and supporting large-scale renewable hydrogen projects financially. This can be said so when they are laying the groundwork for Australia to become a significant exporter of hydrogen. In order to attract investment, create supply chains, and enhance research and development, Australia is doing this through collaborating with other nations.

3. Germany

In order to reduce the country’s reliance on coal, the German recovery plan seeks to increase the role of hydrogen. Therefore, the government had come out with a financial initiative where they had allocated EUR 7 billion for green hydrogen development. This is to ensure that more projects for hydrogen production can be done for the country.

Other than supporting financially for hydrogen production, in order to decrease the usage of fossil fuels in industrial processes in the country, hydrogen will be promoted in the industrial sector. Additionally, Germany fosters the development of concepts for hybrid electric flight which is a combination of hydrogen, fuel cells, and battery technology and the direct use of green hydrogen in aircraft engines. In the process of making hydrogen as energy sources, Germany had planned

These are some of the countries that are actively making progress in the hydrogen industry. The government officials of today from each country have already included numerous cutting-edge technologies and policy measures into their national hydrogen plans. Therefore, It is safe to say that many countries nowadays are planning to reach net-zero emissions.
